Our second Rough Draft of 2009 is the brain child of director Tanya Goldberg (The Crucible). In collaboration with screenwriter Trent Bartfeld, playwright Tee O’Neil and five members of The Residents, Tanya will embark on a project about sexuality, perception, power and the force of public opinion. From television to Twitter, from the water cooler to the playground, from the horse’s mouth to the cyber grapevine, this work will explore the distortions and permissive practices of contemporary Australian sexual culture.
The week-long creative development is an opportunity for this group of theatre makers to experiment with new ideas and new ways of working. Tanya and the team – with whom she is collaborating for the very first time – will research a number of high profile media stories and investigate how they might spin rich thematic material into theatrical gold.
We would like to invite you to join us at a free, one-off showing at the conclusion of the week on Saturday 8 August at 5pm, in the Richard Wherrett Studio, Sydney Theatre. What you see at this event will be a work in progress - a unique chance to delve into the creative process. Following the showing, you'll be invited to ask questions of the artists and discuss the process.
Tickets are free for Rough Drafts, but we do recommend booking in advance by calling the STC Box Office on (02) 9250 1777 or clicking here.
