Christopher is about to be made redundant by his employer. He is also becoming increasingly redundant at home. Clair, his wife, has met a writer who wants to take her to Lisbon. Why not go with him? She wants to be kissed. Just not by her husband.
Their neighbour Jenny arrives to complain about the noise. The incessant screaming of the children has been keeping her awake. But the garden's empty and the key to the play-room has disappeared.
Who, or what, is real?
The City – a mesmerising new play from the groundbreaking British playwright Martin Crimp (Attempts On Her Life, The Country) – takes the audience from the profoundly unsettling to the darkly comic. The result is an exhilarating mystery, which explores urban living, global insecurity and the nature of fiction.
Benedict Andrews (The War of the Roses, The Season at Sarsaparilla, Attempts on Her Life) returns to direct this devastatingly intelligent new work for Sydney Theatre Company.

"...a subtle and engrossing production... The staging is wonderful... Delicacy is key in this production, as it often is in intimate relationships, and Andrews skilfully contains the work." The Daily Telegraph
