Lisa is about to embark on a mission. A mission that will take her into another world. A perilous, bizarre but alluring world: The Wonderful World of Dissocia.

It’s all because of an hour. A missing hour. Lost on the plane between New York and London. Ever since that trip Lisa’s life has been diabolical. Now she’s being given the opportunity to recover the hour and restore equilibrium to her life. All she has to do is make her way through Dissocia…

On the way she’ll meet a bumbling pair of (in)security guards, a (scape)goat with a penchant for committing horrible crimes and a trashy hot dog vendor named Britney. But the trouble these guys cause is nothing compared with Lisa’s most terrifying adversary: the Black Dog King.

Exhilaration and frenetic adventuring aside, there is something very dark and very real lurking beneath this world. All is not as it seems.

This dazzling play by Anthony Neilson was commissioned by the Edinburgh International Festival and went on to win every major category at the Critics’ Awards for Theatre in Scotland including Best New Play. In 2007, the National Theatre of Scotland’s production delighted audiences and critics alike across the UK. We welcome back Marion Potts to direct what promises to be a boisterous and moving evening of theatre.

Once you’ve entered The Wonderful World of Dissocia, your world may never look the same again.

Reviews

"8/10.... The world of Dissocia, created by Scottish playwright Anthony Neilson, is like that little corner of your brain that fantasises and yearns to break out of routine and rediscover your inner child.... Besides the wonderfully extravagant performances from a great ensemble, the creative collaboration behind the production is the true revelation. Director Marion Potts, along with designers Nick Schlieper, Tess Schofield and Alice Babidge, have created a world that not only transports you with the colour and light of the set but also brings you bursting into its beautiful and unexpected dreamlike end." The Sun Herald

"***** Excellent stagecraft makes this Disney-and-Kafka sundae terrific entertainment.... a sad but wonderful play, beautifully staged." Time Out Sydney

Cate & Andrew say...

Cate: The playwright said “If you like Alice in Wonderland but there’s not enough sex and violence in it, then Dissocia is the show for you”.
Andrew: What more can we say?
Cate: I laughed and I cried.
Andrew: Yeah. It’s a piece of Theatre alright.
