One scene.
One playwright.
Five interpretations.
Our next Rough Draft creative development will be an investigation into the infinite staging possibilities presented by a single piece of text. Each day a different theatre artist and a team of five actors will workshop the short scene, penned by playwright Rita Kalnejais especially for Rough Draft #6.
The brief to the five artists running the workshops is simple: they can use their time to investigate the text in any way they choose but they must generate a small amount of material for the public showing at the end of the week. They might use their workshop to develop the script, to create a polished staging of all or part of it, or to create an expressionistic response to it.
Participating in this ambitious experiment in text, interpretation and form are Richard Cottrell (director), Stefan Gregory (sound designer and composer), Alice Osborne (puppeteer), Kate Revz (director) and Kate Champion (choreographer). This will be a rare opportunity for a playwright to experience a range of responses to her writing and for an audience to gain insight into the infinite interpretive possibilities of a text.
The free, one-off showing will take place on Saturday 17 April at 5pm, in Wharf 2. Tickets are free for Rough Drafts, but we do recommend booking in advance by calling the STC Box Office on (02) 9250 1777 or clicking here.
