STCinema presents the film Faithless, directed by screen legend, Liv Ullmann, on Sunday 16 August at Sydney Theatre at 1pm.

Liv Ullmann will appear on stage ‘In Conversation’ with David Stratton from ABC 1’s At The Movies immediately following the screening.

Liv Ullmann is currently in Sydney directing A Streetcar Named Desire for Sydney Theatre Company which previews from 1 September.

Faithless tells the story of Marianne, a successful actress in a happy marriage to famous conductor Markus, who embarks on a passionate affair with family friend, David, a film and theatre director. Unable to end the affair with David, Marianne finds herself embroiled in divorce proceedings and a bitter fight for custody of her daughter.

The story is told through the memories of an aging writer/director named ‘Bergman’, a recluse living alone on a remote island. Could Marianne be the ghost of his former lover?

This intense and shattering story explores the emotional turmoil and heartbreak of the end of a marriage and the guilt that haunts us forever.

Faithless was written by Ingmar Bergman, one of the most famous auteurs in cinematic history and with whom Liv Ullmann shared a long term collaboration. The film screened in competition at the Cannes Film Festival in 2000 and following its international premiere went on to win a whole host of prestigious awards and nominations including the award for Best Film in the European Film Awards.

This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to hear this icon of cinema discuss her career and current work directing the classic play, A Streetcar Named Desire by Tennessee Williams.
