BRECHT WORKSHOP
Director Lee Lewis
This workshop will be facilitated by esteemed director Lee Lewis who will guide four performers through key scenes from Mother Courage, The Caucasian Chalk Circle, The Threepenny Opera and Life of Galileo.
What were Brecht’s political and artistic ambitions and how did he go about realising them? Are they still significant?
Through the presentation of selected scenes from some of Brecht’s most important plays, these questions will be considered by examining the theatrical techniques he employed. The workshop will highlight many of his innovations to reveal to students what made his theatre so exceptional.
By viewing the performances and through discussion with the director, students will have an opportunity to observe many of Brecht’s theoretical concepts in performance. These scenes will be woven together with commentary on the historical and political context of Brecht’s plays.
Students are encouraged to ask questions of the director and performers during the presentation.
