TRAGEDY WORKSHOP
Director Naomi Edwards
In 2009 the Tragedy Workshop will be directed by Naomi Edwards and feature Oedipus Tyrannus and Death of a Salesman.
Beginning with an explanation of the social and cultural contexts of both plays, the workshop will then move into an examination of the dramatic elements of the classical tragedy Oedipus Tyrannus, compared to the modern tragedy Death of a Salesman.
Finally a consideration of ideas around contemporary staging will be presented and demonstrated by the performers. Students will be encouraged to consider what impact the plays now have on a modern audience.
Naomi Edwards will guide four performers through key scenes from Oedipus Tyrannus and Death of a Salesman offering students an opportunity to see professional actors tackle scenes from both tragedies.
Students will be encouraged to ask questions during the presentation.
