ACCIDENTAL DEATH OF AN ANARCHIST

‘You make statements to the press that ‘naturally’ there are no transcripts of the anarchist’s interrogation, yet a short while later, like a miracle, out come not none, but two or three transcripts, signed by the anarchist. From the grave no doubt. Who will believe a word you say now? Well, the Judge will… but apart from him. Who will believe a word you say now?’

Stefo Nantsou directs The Residents, Sydney Theatre Company’s new permanent acting ensemble, in their first production – Dario Fo’s brilliant and hysterical political satire Accidental Death of an Anarchist.

Accidental Death of an Anarchist is a glorious battle with officialdom that reveals Fo’s adept political insight. The play is based on events involving a real person, Giuseppe Pinelli, who died after plunging to his death from the fourth floor window of a Milan police station in 1969. Fo used this event to create a fictional play involving a range of dim-witted inspectors duelling with The (master of disguise) Maniac who continually outsmarts them.

This new production will draw on the Italian traditions of farce and of commedia dell'Arte, combining them with our very own style of slapstick and Australian larrikin humour. Join us for an uproarious and hilarious theatrical event, presented as part of our Education Program, STC Ed.
