Brecht Workshop
Directed by Shannon Murphy
What were Brecht’s political and artistic ambitions and how did he go about realising them? Are they still significant?
Through the presentation of selected scenes from some of Brecht’s most important plays, Shannon Murphy and her cast will examine the theatrical techniques he employed. Carefully chosen scenes will be woven together with commentary on the historical and political context of Brecht’s plays. The workshop will highlight many of his innovations, revealing to students what made his theatre so exceptional.
By viewing the performances and through discussion with the director, students will gain experience of many of Brecht’s theoretical concepts in performance.
Students are encouraged to ask questions of the director and performers at the end of the presentation.
