BURNT
Written and Directed by Tom Lycos and Stefo Nantsou

Drought is different to a fire or flood. Drought is slow, painful and seemingly endless. Death is all around you.

Set in the fictitious town of Gilpendry, Burnt dramatises one family's battle to survive and sustain their property during a ceaselessly punishing drought. Taking both a panoramic view of a community stoically battling hard times and a focused gaze at the consequences of economic stress for individuals, this is an honest, humorous and sometimes heart-breaking piece of theatre.

Burnt is about how a family, be they from the city or the country, copes with the hardship brought on by the financial strain. Relevant and poignant, this play for now is performed with dynamism and gusto.

A remarkable ensemble of three actors use minimal sets and props as well as live music to create multiple characters and locations. Audiences are in for a treat: this really is physical theatre at  its best.

Burnt was originally commissed by Sydney Theatre Company through the support of The Girgensohn Foundation.

Premiering in 2009, STC Ed is proud to remount this brilliantly exuberant yet deeply moving production for both metropolitian and regional audiences.

Burnt will be touring to Riverside Theatres Parramatta from 17-21 May.

dynamic, enegetic and educating from the very beginning... Teacher, St Vincent's College, 2009

Zeal never fail to produce engaging theatre for students which not only makes them think about and discuss current and crucial issues, also assists them to appreciate the elements of drama studied at school. I always see a marked increase in their physical risk taking and pushing of boundaries in their class drama work following their experience of any Zeal performance.  Teacher, Arden Anglican School, 2009
