About STC Ed

From our Artistic Directors Cate Blanchett and Andrew Upton

Experiencing theatre, the alchemy of words, image and action, for the first time can be a life changing event. We certainly remember our first taste of theatre and from then on were hooked. Sydney Theatre Company is honoured to create this magical moment for our young audiences, and to be the caretakers of their ongoing theatrical experiences through STC Ed’s program of productions, workshops, resources and outreach programs.

STC Ed’s 2010 will entertain and delight with the highest quality works created by us, and on offer from around Australia, suitable for every student in NSW.

STC Ed is a big part of STC and we’re thrilled about welcoming you to the theatre very soon.

About STC Ed

STC Ed is for everyone and anyone who is interested in exploring theatre. We aim to share how it is created, introduce the people who make it happen and start conversations about the stories we bring to the stage. Adults experience STC Ed with their children, teachers with their students, teenagers with their friends.

Sydney Theatre Company’s program for young people, STC Ed, is the most comprehensive commitment made by any State theatre company in Australia. It’s critical to us and it’s a source of great pride.

From its earliest beginnings in 1987, STC Ed has evolved to:

•    A season of five full-scale productions created by some of Australia’s leading theatre artists (general public welcome!);

•    Annual commissioning of new Australian work for young audiences;

•    Touring to regional and inter-state locations;

•    Residencies for aspiring young playwrights;

•    Performances in schools across NSW;

•    Wide-ranging Student Workshops;

•    Investment in NSW teachers through unique professional learning programs.

Our exciting work in STC Ed is achieved through the generous philanthropic partners and individuals who support us through the STC Foundation. We thank them for ensuring STC Ed continues into the future and young people will always have a chance to experience the wonderment of theatre.
