Sydney Theatre

The largest of our theatres, Sydney Theatre seats up to 896 people and is situated 150 metres west of The Wharf, opposite Pier 6/7 on Hickson Road.

Sydney Theatre offers STC the opportunity to expand the range of work we both produce and present. Not only can our own productions be more ambitious and reach grander scales artistically and aesthetically, we envisage forging relationships with national and international companies of repute. Through these creative relationships we will bring to Sydney the best work from around Australia and the world.

Matching the scale of the Playhouses in Brisbane, Melbourne, Canberra and Adelaide, it also completes a national touring circuit of compatible theatres providing ease of transfer for touring productions.

The architects Peddle Thorp and Walker have previous experience in the art of creating a performing arts space, being the team behind the acclaimed City Recital Hall in Sydney's Angel Place and the stunning refurbishment of the Capitol Theatre. Led by Andrew Andersons, the success of the architects has been to integrate the heritage elements of the old Bond Stores into an evocative, stylish yet supremely functional venue.

As well as STC's seasons, Sydney Theatre provides a home for many of Sydney's other significant performing arts companies, particularly those resident in Walsh Bay, including Sydney Dance Company and Sydney Writers' Festival.
