Michael Scott-Mitchell's design for Storm Boy is dominated by the elegant sweep of a plywood wave. The form is inspired by various references, including Wave Rock in WA, the sand dunes of the Coorong, fish skeletons and driftwood sculptures. It was a complex task to manufacture such a delicate organic form in a way that allows it to take the weight of actors, be pulled apart for touring and still be beautiful. A time-lapse camera captured it all.
