In a coup for Novocastrian theatre lovers, historians and
nostalgics, an abandoned trove of photos from the Hunter Valley
Theatre Company has been found in a Newcastle building scheduled
for demolition.
The Hunter Valley Theatre Company was Australia's first
regionally-based full-time professional theatre company dedicated
to new and original work. The company folded in 1996, but its
legacy is alive and well as the breeding ground for talents like
Jonathan Biggins (The Wharf Revue),
John Doyle (Vere (Faith)) and Robert Alexander
(Machinal).
The University of Newcastle is currently seeking help in
identifying actors who appear in the photos. You can view
the entire archive and provide information here. Or get a peek
at the photos below.
