Muriel's Wedding the Musical began rehearsals this week at The Wharf. The 28-strong cast will soon be joined by a 11-member band and will rehearse for 6 weeks, with the new musical commencing previews on 6 November.
Maggie McKenna, who is making her stage debut playing the eponymous Muriel, said:
"Excited would be an understatement for how I'm feeling about starting rehearsals for this show. I cannot wait to start working with this incredible team, I've been sticking out my tongue in anticipation for months!"
For the creative team, which includes Muriel's Wedding's original writer/director PJ Hogan, director Simon Phillips, designer Gabriela Tylesova and songwriters Kate Miller-Heidke and Keir Nuttall, the start of rehearsals is the culmination of a long process of development. Keir said:
"After years of blood, sweat and toil, the day is finally arriving where we get to see the material truly take shape in the hands of this incredible cast."
