Natalie Yang is a young author excited to be making her debut on the literary scene with her memoir Banana Girl. At her first book talk in Nagambie, in rural Victoria, Natalie discovers that the bookworms have little interest in her sex memoir.
After reading them a graphic excerpt about a former lover's penis, she discovers they’d rather talk about where she's from and about Lu Lu Jayadi, one of Natalie's contemporaries who, the audience tell her, "writes beautifully about her mother, her culture, Indonesia".
And so begins Natalie’s descent, a journey fuelled by a desire to be true to herself and an obsessive jealousy of her rival. Determined to make her second book even juicer than the first, she doubles down – she plans on calling it 100 Cocks in 100 Nights, begins researching the subject matter immediately and is fully prepared to lose her friends, her job and her dignity in the process.
Going Down, 23 Mar – 5 May 2018, Wharf 2 Theatre
