School Drama Hub 2021

Neilson Family Gallery, The Wharf$65

School Drama Hub

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, School Drama Hub will be postponed, with new dates to be announced shortly.

School Drama Hub provides opportunities for primary teachers to build their skills in integrating Drama and Arts-rich approaches across the curriculum and develop their teaching artistry. In 2021, a series of School Drama Hub workshops will focus on particular areas of interest to our teaching community. Each session is a practical workshop, showcasing interactive strategies that you can take into your classroom straightaway. We recommend all participants have either participated in School Drama Classic (the 7 week artist-in-residence model) and/or are familiar with The School Drama Book.

Literacy and creativity with the younger years: Early Stage 1/Stage 1 focus

For teachers and pre-service teachers working with Early Stage 1 and Stage 1 (Kindergarten-Year 2), join Professor Emerita Robyn Ewing AM (The University of Sydney) to explore how creative multi-arts approaches can engage young learners. Robyn will demonstrate how to scaffold and differentiate a range of Arts-rich strategies, paired with evocative children’s literature, to motivate younger students at the outset of their literacy learning.

Date: Wednesday 28 July (Term 3, Week 3), 4-7pm
Location: Neilson Family Gallery, Wharf 4/5, 15 Hickson Road Walsh Bay
Cost: $65 per person, light refreshments will be served

Creative approaches to language learning with EAL/D learners

For teachers and pre-service teachers working with students with English as an additional language/dialect (EAL/D), join Dr Victoria Campbell (University of Sydney) and Zoe Hogan (Sydney Theatre Company) to explore how creative approaches can foster inclusive classrooms. Building on five years of practice with STC’s Connected program, this workshop will show how to incorporate storytelling and embodied learning into your regular teaching practice to welcome, acknowledge and nurture students’ linguistic and cultural knowledge.

Date: Wednesday 18 August (Term 3, Week 6), 4-7pm
Location: Neilson Family Gallery, Wharf 4/5, 15 Hickson Road Walsh Bay
Cost: $65 per person, light refreshments will be served
