PRODUCTIONS - STC Ed’s 2010 season will entertain and delight you, beginning with Martin McDonagh’s black Irish comedy The Beauty Queen of Leenane. Directed by Cristabel Sved, this stellar cast includes Judi Farr (Pig Iron People, The Tempest), Mandy McElhinney (A Streetcar Named Desire), Darren Gilshenan (Strange Attractor, Elling, Tot Mom) and Eamon Farren (Blessed). Perfect for HSC Drama and English students, this play promises a good night at the theatre for anyone who has had to deal with an interfering mother…

In Term 3, terrible twins cause trouble in Shakespeare’s The Comedy of Errors performed by STC’s vibrant ensemble of actors, The Residents. A fantastic introduction to Shakespeare, this rollicking comedy of mistaken identity will delight and engage audiences from Years 7 to 10.

STC Ed joins forces with STC Associate Companies to present two significant new Australian works. We are very proud to present Windmill/Big hArt’s powerful indigenous work - Nyuntu Ngali (You We Two), and Zeal Theatre’s outstanding drought family drama, Burnt at the Wharf, which then tours throughout regional NSW as part of The People of The Soil Project.

For Primary schools and families, we bring ice cream shenanigans to the Wharf with award-winning Arena Theatre Company’s Mr Freezy. Made in collaboration with the anarchic Men of Steel, Mr Freezy is a wildly imaginative adventure told with ice-cream scoops, sprinkles and buckets of ice cream!
See it as an end of Term 2 treat or bring your family over the holidays.

The newest addition to STC Ed’s theatrical offerings is Actor On A Box, a series of intimate theatrical shows imagined for children 3 years old and up. Mix together one fine actor, a great yarn and a whole lot of fun and you’ve got the perfect first taste of theatre for our youngest audience. We have two great stories to tell – in the Term 1 holidays, we present Henry Lawson’s The Loaded Dog; and in Term 3 holidays, Tony Mitton’s The Red and White Spotted Handkerchief. Perfect school holiday entertainment.

SCHOOLS DAYS – don’t forget, every main stage production has a special Schools Day performance which features a full day of exploration into the world of the play and the artists’ process. Check out the 2010 Schools Day tab for season dates.

About STC Ed

Sydney Theatre Company’s program for young people, STC Ed, is the most comprehensive commitment made by any State theatre company in Australia. It’s critical to us and it’s a source of great pride.

From its earliest beginnings in 1987, STC Ed has evolved to:

•    A season of five full-scale productions created by some of Australia’s leading theatre artists (general public welcome!);

•    Annual commissioning of new Australian work for young audiences;

•    Touring to regional and inter-state locations;

•    Residencies for aspiring young playwrights;

•    Performances in schools across NSW;

•    Wide-ranging Student Workshops;

•    Investment in NSW teachers through unique professional learning programs.

Our exciting work in STC Ed is achieved through the generous philanthropic partners and individuals who support us through the STC Foundation. We thank them for ensuring STC Ed continues into the future and young people will always have a chance to experience the wonderment of theatre.
