On Wednesday 1st May Artistic Director Kip Williams launched our FirstAct program in front of a crowd that included young theatre lovers, STC donors, actor and STC Foundation Member Mia Wasikowska, and STC Resident Artists.

FirstAct is Sydney Theatre Company’s exciting new supporter circle: a group of young professionals and theatre lovers, emerging leaders and philanthropists who together champion the next generation of theatre-makers.

FirstAct will support the creation of new work, and the artistic development of our Watershed creatives, empowering them to invest in their artistic futures as they come on board and learn from our experienced STC Resident Artists.

To launch the program Kip sat down with STC Board Member Brooke Boney to discuss his career, history with STC, and his reflections on his time as Artistic Director.

Kip spoke about being an STC Resident Artist himself, beginning as a Directing Associate in 2012 under then Artistic Director Andrew Upton.

He shared insights and anecdotes from the development of his cine-theatre style, from Suddenly Last Summer to The Picture of Dorian Gray and beyond.

After an incredible 8 years as Artistic Director, and fresh from opening his first production on London’s West End, Kip is Broadway-bound. His incredible success is a testament to the possibilities of artistic development, and a perfect example of what a nurturing training ground for young talent STC can be.

Young supporter groups are emerging across all artforms. Be part of the rising tide and join us in ensuring the sustainability of the arts sector.

FirstAct will lay the groundwork for the longevity of the Company by building a network to support emerging theatre makers, ensuring funding into the future.
