Now that you’ve met me and hopefully enjoyed the first season I programmed for you, it’s time to really get down to business!

For 2027, we aimed high with the talent we wanted to bring to you and the universe has delivered a galaxy of stars that blows my mind every time I look through the pages of this brochure.

At Sydney Theatre Company, our mission is to take brilliant Sydney theatre to the world and to bring brilliant world theatre to Sydney. And once more, we’re leaning in.

Together with our teams of award-winning and top-drawer creatives, this phenomenal constellation of artists will bring to life magnificent theatrical stories that speak directly to the time and place in which we find ourselves: four world premiere Australian plays, rapturously received contemporary international hits, beloved tales reimagined and reborn, dramas that feel fresh as the morning and comedies that capture the zeitgeist consummately.

The culture we want to share with you in 2027 doesn't come in just one flavour. It's expansive. It's vibrant. It's in stereo. A diversity of voices, points of view, histories and possibilities springing from such dazzling art.

And it’s loud. And it’s live. Sorry AI, but you can’t do what these artists can do. They defy algorithms and expectations.

And the individuality and difference of each work in our season is, likewise, its strength.

Yet what many of our 2027 productions explore, in many different ways, is the notion of family. How families are made or chosen, how they are sustained, how they can rupture. How they can hurt us, but also how they can heal.

Families are made when theatre is created too. The community of passionate, dynamic and daring staff and creators at Sydney Theatre Company is something to behold. All reaching for brilliance and hopefully providing it to our other family – our audiences.

It has been my complete pleasure to meet so many of you this year. Thank you for coming up to me in the foyer to tell me what you’ve thought of the work we’ve been making for you; for waiting at stage door to tell our actors; for the letters and phone calls; and to those who brought friends along so that you could see the shows more than once (you know I know who you are!). Thank you, too, to those who have leaned over from your table in The Wharf Restaurant & Bar to say g’day (ok, I eat there a lot – why wouldn’t I? That view! That food! And you should always add the roast spiced carrots with burnt butter and sage to your dinner. Trust me).

Thank you most of all for coming to our house to see what theatrical meals our family has in store for you.

We know you’re hungry for great theatre.
