As with many a New Zealander, Australians have firmly embraced Sarah Peirse as one of our own. Her career began across the ditch, but she came to international renown in 1994 when she played the ill-fated mother in Peter Jackson's film Heavenly Creatures alongside a young and murderous Kate Winslet. The following year, she made her Sydney Theatre Company debut in Terry Johnson's bittersweet comedy Dead Funny.
Since then, she has given Sydney some truly commanding performances, winning a Sydney Theatre Award for her portrayal of Patricia Highsmith in Switzerland (2014) and a Helpmann Award for her role in The Golden Age (2016). In 2018, she returns in two productions – The Children and A Cheery Soul.
